Tetap Bersosialisasi Dengan Dunia dan Rekan-Rekan Tersayang..

Facebook kini telah benar-benar 'menjajah' dunia 'pertemanan online'. Selain secara de facto telah meninggalkan situs-situs sosial sejenis seperti Friendster, Facebook kini juga mulai menjamah pasar percakapan online atau chatting. Fitur chatting inilah yang menjadi salah satu sebab kenapa Facebook terasa lebih enak di gunakan untuk bersosialisasi di banding Friendster. Dan bukan tidak mungkin, nanti Facebook chatting bisa lebih popular dari Yahoo! Messenger.

Jika Yahoo! chatting sudah memiliki aplikasinya sendiri yaitu Yahoo! Messenger, bagaimana dengan aplikasi messenger untuk Facebook chatting? Tentu sudah banyak, salah satunya adalah e-buddy, yang telah mendukung koneksi ke protokol chatting Facebook dengan baik.

Dan bagaimana dengan Linux? Don`t worry! Di Linux kita punya satu aplikasi messenger multi-protokol yang sudah sangat populer yaitu Pidgin! Namun, sampai posting ini di tulis, Pidgin belum menyertakan secara default koneksi ke protokol chatting Facebook. Loh? Jangan khawatir, kita hanya perlu menambahkan satu plugin untuk berkoneksi ke chatting Facebook, yang bisa kita download dengan mudah di internet. Kita tinggal menginstalasinya dan aplikasi Pidgin kita sudah siap berkomunikasi dengan protokol Facebook chatting. File instalasi plugin Facebook itu sendiri tersedia dalam beberapa format binari populer, mulai dari Windows sampai ke binari Linux Debian.

Setelah mendownload plugin tersebut, kita tinggal menginstalasinya, baik dengan command-line :

$ sudo dpkg -i pidgin-facebookchat-1.38.deb, atau dengan klik kanan, dan 'Open with>Gdebi Package Installer.

Jalankan ulang Pidgin, dan kita tinggal menambah akun profil Pidgin kita ke protokol Facebook. Sangat mudah dan kini kita bisa ber-chatt ke Facebok dengan Pidgin!

Catatan teknis :

Sistem yang saya gunakan adalah Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex, dan satu 'hal teknis' yang terjadi saat saya menggunakan koneksi chatting Facebook di Pidgin adalah, fitur chatting Facebook yang ada di browser Mozilla mendadak menghilang, dan secara tidak langsung kita ter-logout dari Facebook! ^_^

Plugin Facebook-Pidgin kini telah tersedia di repositori Ubuntu 9.04, kita tinggal mengupdate apt dan sistem Ubuntu Linux kita ke 9.04, dan kita bisa menginstalasinya dengan sangat mudah.

How To Speed Up Your KDE Plasma Desktop (KDE4)

KDE is one of the oldest desktop environment in Linux. While GNOME (the other desktop that as old as KDE) is trying to built its own style of user interface, KDE from the beginning seems to mimics the Microsoft Windows' "classic" user interface.
