Fixing Slow Wifi Realtek rtl8821ce in Newest Linux Kernel

Wifi card is a small component in your laptop you can't choose. Lucky if you get a common, fine working wifi card with Linux kernel. Recently I got a laptop with Realtek rtl8821ce that has a serious issue with newest Linux kernel (5.11.x and above). The wifi card becomes so slow after I did a system upgrade. Apparently, the issue is caused by inappropriate driver loaded by the newest Linux kernel that makes the wifi card works less than a decent performance we should get. The solution is quite simple. You have to install the appropriate driver from Ubuntu's official repository: Connect to internet using your Android's USB thethering connection. Install this following package: sudo apt install rtl8821ce-dkms Reboot your system

Increase KDE Plasma's System Tray Icon Size

KDE Plasma is always my favorite desktop environment. It is the complete setup that offers me the efficient user experience and the beautiful appearance, without any further customization. However, there is still a minor issue when I'm using hi-res screen: the system tray's icon size are too small. Here are the simple steps to fix the issue: In your home folder, open the file .config/plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc Find the line contains extraItems Below that line, add this line: iconSize=3 Save the file, logout and login to the desktop. That's it. Now your KDE Plasma's system tray icon size will become larger and looks better.

Q4OS 4.6 "Gemini" Review: A Real Hidden Gem

Distro hopping is a fun adventure. It's a pure joy you can only find in GNU/Linux world. It's a nature you want to escape from what I call 'comfort ecosystem'. You need to play, trying something new even for a few little differences. For a long time I've been using Ubuntu family as my daily driver. The main reason is probably just same as any other Ubuntu user: it's reliable. You can't go wrong with Ubuntu. It works almost in any device, even for the newest one. It is the ultimate Linux distro you can rely on. However, sometimes, you will feel bored. The temptation to flirt with other new distro is unbearable. There are a lot of hot new Linux distros waiting to try.  A Real Hidden Gem I've known this distro for a quite long time. At first, it offered Trinity Desktop as the main desktop, which brings me the sweet memories about KDE3. It is simply fast, stable, almost without any issue, and it is based on Debian. I install it on my old machine and I love t...

How To Install Latest Firefox on Debian Safely

Debian is always one of my favorite distro. It feels like, let's say "the vanilla version" of Ubuntu. In fact, Debian is the great grandfather for a lot of uncountable Linux distros, including Ubuntu and, yes, LinuxMint. As Ubuntu based on Debian, the two giants are similar in a lot of ways. I mostly use Ubuntu as my daily driver for years because of its simplicity. Unfortunately, recently I have an issue with my WLAN card and the latest Ubuntu's Linux kernel. Because I've been too tired to solve the issue, I try to install the latest Debian 11 "Bullseye" and amazingly everything works excellent. My WLAN card works as I expected and I'm very happy with it. The only minor issue I have with Debian is, I can't install the latest Mozilla Firefox directly from Debian's repository. The Firefox-ESR is good, but for some reasons, I need the fresh, newest Firefox to run some specific tasks. So I've improvised to install latest Firefox onto my Debi...

Using wget, wo could control our download speed easily with this command below: wget --limit-rate=xx URL Example: Download an iso with limit rate 24kbps wget --limit-rate=24k http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/xubuntu/daily-live/current/hirsute-desktop-amd64.iso

Mandriva Linux 2010 Wallpapers

Mandriva was my favorite daily driver Linux distribution, alongside Ubuntu. It was, probably the best looking Linux distro ever existed. I adore the beauty of the Mandriva artwork.  Recently I found a Mandriva One 2010 iso in my Linux iso collection, and quickly tempted to rock it on VirtualBox. I still amazed by the beauty, so I extract the wallpapers and use it on my desktop to recall my sweet memories with this very nice distribution. I believe there are ex-Mandriva users just like me, so I share the beautiful wallpapers from Mandriva 2010 to beautify your current Linux desktop. Click to enlarge and then Save Image As to download.

Install Realtek RTL8821CE Driver on Ubuntu

Realtek RTL8821CE driver currently isn't included in default Ubuntu installation. If you have a laptop with that WLAN card, you have to install it manually. Thanks to Linux community, there is already a Linux firmware to RTL8821CE WLAN card. Here are the steps to install RTL8821CE WLAN driver on any Ubuntu-based distro. 1. Disable Secure Boot Some said it isn't mandatory to disable secure boot. But in my case, I have to disable secure boot to make the driver works properly. Go to your laptop BIOS setup, and go to Boot menu. You will find an option to disable secure boot. 2. Install the Dependencies sudo apt install bc module-assistant build-essential dkms 3. Download the Firware Go to https://github.com/tomaspinho/rtl8821ce and download the master firmware. Select Clone or download -> Download ZIP. 4.
